The Collective gathering welcomes changemakers from across sectors and issues in a uniquely facilitated and curated space to more deeply tend to amplifying and focusing strategic and purposeful leadership on issues of collective good and social justice. This is leadership development redefined.

As a community, The Collective professional development experience bridges both professional and personal growth as essential components of leadership. Changemakers leave this powerful in-person gathering with clear action steps, bolder strategies, and new relationships with other purpose-driven colleagues.

You'll have time to recharge for taking your leadership to the next level in 2025, to continue designing that awesome idea you have, and work on areas of your leadership that may not get enough attention.

Who is invited to The Collective?

Leaders and changemakers from across sectors, from any level within an organization, who are focused on issues related to social justice are invited to join The Collective.

This space welcomes people from all backgrounds and career levels who are looking to invest in their personal and professional development, .

To foster deep connection and personal attention, space is strategically limited for each cohort.

Previous attendees represented an amazing array of purposeful changemakers:

Philanthropic institutions, nonprofits, consulting, social justice entreprenuers, and universities, working on issues like climate justice, local community empowerment, economic and community development, evaluation within philanthropic efforts, racial equity, and international knowledge exchange.

What will I gain from this experience?

Community. We don't do this work alone and The Collective intentionally focuses on building relationships and community among its participants. You'll have time to connect with other purposeful changemakers — sharing leadership learnings and even fostering partnerships to move your work forward! This space brings in people "who get it" and who are ready to activate their bigger and bolder voice.

Recharge. With a carefully designed agenda and experience, you'll have time and activities to reconnect mind, body, and spirit. This is an essential part of not only investing in your leadership, but investing in a way to soothe burnout and sustain purposeful leadership.

Effectiveness. Facilitated sessions will deepen your own awareness of your leadership purpose: where to focus your energies, who to lean on, how to support tangible strategies to take action to create impactful change for the communities we serve and yourself. Deepen the effectiveness of your changemaking within organizations, networks, and to advance strategies. Learn about how to lead change, manage resistance, and embed your efforts into practice for the long-term.

Coaching. Each attendee will receive one 60-minute coaching session with Bina post-gathering. Bina's coaching is rooted in practices of justice, liberation, and anti-oppression. This personalized leadership coaching session will leave you with more tools, support, and strategies to continue on your journey.

Who is the host of this event?

Bina M. Patel is most well-known for her facilitation and coaching approach — one that focuses on more holistically building unencumbered leadership to advance collective good. With over 25 years of experience working with cross-sector leaders who are committed to equity and inclusion, the gatherings she facilitates are marked by good energy, growing motivation, and authentic deep work.

Her approach centers change making for collective progress and honors the individual changemakers in the room. Most commonly heard in her facilitated gatherings:

Her facilitation and coaching creates growth for leaders looking to amplify impactful work. She is also a certified remembrance coach (known as "mindfulness" in western settings), which allows participants in her gatherings to benefit from practices that support focus and sustained leadership.

The Collective gathering will open with a fun reception the evening of Monday, October 21 and close with celebration the afternoon of Thursday, October 24. Please plan your travel accordingly.

We'll be meeting at the beautiful Kona Kai Resort and Spa. This beautiful waterfront venue is the perfect setting for The Collective. The resort is centrally located 10 minutes from San Diego International Airport. You'll have time to take advantage of the amenities and gorgeous natural setting in San Diego.

1. Why did you create this space?

I know it to be true that time well spent with other folks who are being nourished, nudged, given time to reconnect with ourselves and others, given time rest and replenish our leadership – this is what helps us get through the hardest of times, get through burnout, tiredness, and helps us spark our vision to keep going. We need each other.

2. Who is invited to The Collective?

The Collective is an in person gathering. We will be meeting at the beautiful Kona Kai Resort and Spa. This beautiful waterfront venue is the perfect setting for The Collective. The resort is centrally located 10 minutes from San Diego International Airport. You'll have time to take advantage of the amenities and gorgeous natural setting in San Diego.

How do we spend our time during The Collective?

There is time for personal reflection and care, time together in pairs or trios to share insights and wisdom, and full group time that is facilitated by Bina. We start with breakfast around 8.30 and each day moves gently but deeply into our work of dreaming, amplifying our voice and purpose, building community, and rest. Each day has time for rest, exploring the property or areas near the resort, and except for 1 evening, we gather again for a relaxing dinner, some games, and even time for fireside s'mores by the waterfront.
